Predominately a French community in those days, Mission was originally referred to as the Rouleauville after the two French brothers that established the Holy Cross hospital in the area. Once the area was annexed to the city of Calgary in 1907, the French community began to dissolve, and the neighbourhood was subsequently christened Mission.
