Out of the ashes of the General Hospitals demolition in 1998 has risen the revitalized, northeast community of Bridgeland-Riverside.
Formerly known as Little Italy this cultured and historic neighbourhood still houses some great itialian Restaurants and dining experiences. Newer condo complexes and commercial buildings are integrated into this 100-year-old, immigrant-established community with historic landmark businesses like the massive Bridgeland Market to newer conveniences like the Main Dish. Its colourful, international spirit lives on through its eateries. Theres Costa Rican coffee at Baya Rica Cafe, Japanese ramen at Shiki Menya, Middle Eastern shawarmas at Tazza Deli and Grill, everything Italian at La Brezza Ristorante and La Dolce Vita, homegrown comfort food at Blue Star Diner.
For family fun, head over to the Calgary Zoo or Telus Spark Science Centre that is so close. Alternatively, a quick trip up to Edmonton Trail on a Sunday morning wields a great breakfast at Diner Deluxe or a fine dinner at Open Range. More into a rollerblade or bike ride down the pathways of the Bow River? Once again, Bridgeland has you covered with direct access to miles of pathways. If you work in the downtown core, you can even bike to work in minutes on a sunny summer day.
